Verse of the Week

Verse for the week of February 14:

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.  Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.  Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant."  Philippians 2:3-7

Discussion points:

This passage doesn’t ask us to belittle ourselves, but rather to understand who God made us to be.  Christ understood and accepted his identity.  This freed him from having to prove who he was to others, as well as from having to grasp and cling to his rights as Creator of the world.  Understanding who he was enabled him to fulfill God’s plan by taking on a servant nature and dying for us, even though he was “in very nature God.”  Who has God made you?  Have you embraced who God created you to be, or are you trying to be someone else?  Are there rights that you are grasping or holding on to?  Is this preventing you from looking to the interests of others?

btw, way to put last weeks verse into practice last night. We persevered despite the circumstances. I'm so proud to be a part of this team! Go Force!
